George J. Tenet became Director of Central Intelligence on July 11, 1997. As DCI, he heads the US Intelligence Community and directs the Central Intelligence Agency.

The Intelligence Community refers collectively to those Executive Branch agencies and organizations that conduct the varied intelligence activities which make up the total US national intelligence effort.
